Preparing for your move: Tips for a swift and cost-effective move

We get it - moving can be a mixture of excitement, stress, and unpredictability. If you're not working within a tight budget, lean back and let us handle everything from packing to assembling. But if you're aiming for the quickest (and thereby most cost-effective) move, these tips should set you on the right path. 

1. Parking is key: The closer we can park to your door, the quicker the loading and unloading process will be.

• House residents: Consider using your rubbish bins with a sign to secure a spot and notify neighbours.
• Apartment/building residents: Reach out to your building manager to book a convenient spot. Remember, proximity is key! The farther away we have to park, the more time the move will take.

2. Help us be prepared: Provide us with a detailed description of your home, its access points, and the items to be moved. 

• Are there stairs or lifts?
• Are there any oversized or particularly heavy items?
• Are there any belongings that require special care?

Providing us with the right information will help us plan ahead and have the right equipment. Whether you need a dryer removed from the wall, a desk dismantled, or a heavy table relocated, we've got you covered; just let us know ahead so we can be prepared with the right tools.

3. Packing: If you've decided to pack on your own, here are a few rules of thumb:

• The more prepared and organised you are, the quicker your move will be! Aim to box up all loose items before our team arrives.
• Ensure boxes aren't overfilled and are properly closed, with no items sticking out.

Packing everything into boxes helps our team do a faster and efficient job. Loose items can slow us down – it's faster to move and stack boxes than individual items. Think of loading the truck like a big game of Tetris; uniform boxes make the process smoother. 4. Disconnect and empty: Appliances like washing machines, dryers, and fridges can be disconnected and emptied ahead of the move to save time.

5. Dismantling: Large items that won't fit through doorways, such as bed bases or certain desks and sofas, will need to be dismantled. While our team always carries a toolkit and is trained to handle dismantling and assembling, you can always save time if you tackle this task yourself.

6. Position your packed boxes near the entrance: Whether you decide to stack them on the front lawn, in the driveway, in the front room of the house or right next to the truck door, every little bit of your help will contribute to a quicker house move. Be careful not to injure yourself and so leave the heavier boxes for the movers. For apartments with lifts, consider temporarily placing items in the lobby area if your building allows it.

7. Lift bookings: If your building has a lift, coordinating with your building manager to book it exclusively for your move is crucial. For many buildings, this is mandatory as they need to add protective padding to the lift and reserve a parking spot for the truck. Organizing this in advance will save a lot of time on the day of the move.

8. Labelling:

• Labelling your boxes: this makes it easier for the removalists to ensure they are placed in the correct rooms at delivery. It minimises the fumbling around and confusion of what goes where.
• Contents & Instructions: Label boxes with their contents, and any special instructions like "Fragile", "This side up", or "Do not stack".
